Many couples escape to the island for a honeymoon or even a second honeymoon. After all, Cyprus is not called the island of love for nothing. From the extreme sports, luxurious spas, or the breathtaking sunsets, Cyprus has everything you would need for a romantic getaway. Many hotels offer a honeymoon package for those who just tied the knot. You may also want to consider renting a private villa. By renting your own place you will have the privacy you are looking for and many come with a pool as well. There are also charming little Inn’s ran by local families, where you can have even more privacy while still having a nice dinner provided every night.

While vacationing on the island, the presence of Aphrodite everywhere will surely make you feel the romance. A popular thing to try by many couples is taking a dip in the spot where she supposedly risen. There are also numerous shrines dedicated to her all over the island and will make you appreciate how much love you have in your life.

Are you worried about it raining on your wedding day? By saying “I do” on the island of Cyprus, that will not be an issue. Every day in Cyprus is usually sunny and beautiful so you will be guaranteed a gorgeous day for your vowels. By marrying on the island of love, you will be guaranteed the best wine since Cyprus is best known for their 4,000 years of wine making. There are several formal marriage halls available and you will find that many hotels will cut you a great deal on having a wedding in their facility. Plus, the management knows that by having a wedding in their hotel they will be guaranteed a large amount of guests staying in their facility. Many couple’s choose to be married in one of the medieval castle’s to make their wedding more memorable.

With every thing there is always legalities. I’m not trying to rain on the romance train but there are several things you will have to take care of before the ceremony can take place(besides which colors to use). When arriving in Cyprus, you will have to be assigned to a marriage officer who will have to go through a formal process, much like a check off list, with you. It cannot be taken care of via phone, email, or letter. In person is the only acceptable way in the eyes of Cyprus authority. The following is the steps that have to be taken in order to be married on the island:

Both you and your significant other must have legal documents of identification such as a passport or birth certificate. After providing the documents you will then be asked to sign a form stating that you are giving notice of marriage to the people of Cyprus.

After both of you have signed the appointed forms you will then have to declare under oath that neither you or your significant other have any pending legal background that would keep you from being able to be married.

You will be asked to show proof via paper that you are not currently married. If you have never been married before and the marriage officer hints that you are not being truthful about your current status then you will be asked to swear in front of the Register of the Court District that you have not been married previously. If you have been divorced in the past then you will have to show papers of proof from the divorce and if your last spouse is deceased then you will be required to supply a death certificate.

After being granted the marriage certificate, the ceremony must be completed within 3 months, after that the certificate is invalid. However, you cannot say your vowels until 15 days have passed. If you wish to be married sooner than 15 days(which most people do) then you can announce this wish to the marriage officer and pay extra fees. If this wish is granted then you can have your ceremony in 3 days at the latest.

People under the age of 18 must have a written consent from a parent or guardian. If the person who is applying for marriage is a widower or widow then the written consent is not needed.

After the certificate of marriage is awarded you can purchase a copy for 12 Euros. You can purchase as many copies as you need. If anyone falsely states anything in their oath or application they will be imprisoned.
